The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (PJCIS) has commenced an inquiry into national security risks affecting the Australian higher education and research sector with terms of reference from the Minister for Home Affairs. The requested reporting date from the Minister is July 2021. Terms of reference are available here.. The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security is required by Part 5-1A of the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 (TIA Act) to undertake a review of the mandatory data retention regime (MDRR). This report outlines the findings from the 2020 inquiry.
