Mini Blue Chalksticks (now Curio repens) (Heath): A tidier, more compact version of the larger Blue Chalksticks.Its finger-like leaves are a deeper blue and grow to 1.0"-2.0" long. They have a powdery coating of protective farina that thickens in bright sun, so the plant can take on a more silvery hue in summer. Mini Chalkstalks makes a wonderfully low-maintenance, drought-tolerant ground.

Their long-lasting flowers and translucent leaf margins repeat the orange of roof tiles and pavers, succulent 'Sticks on Fire' at left, and bird-of-paradise along the wall (when in bloom). Blue, the color complement of orange, creates striking contrast via Senecio mandraliscae and Senecio serpens (at left) and tufts of blue fescue (below).. Care. Senecio serpens or 'Blue Chalk Sticks' is easy care, requiring little to no maintenance. Some remedial pruning after flowering will help maintain a good bushy clump. Once established this is a drought tolerant easy care plant. Choose a sunny position. Ensure the soil is well drained or hill up the soil to improve drainage.
